Connecting matter to the science of life

Chemistry is the link that connects problems in the fundamental nature of matter to the most complex problems in the processes of life. The Department of Chemistry at SGGS College is one of the globally recognised, emerging and leading departments in Basic Sciences & Humanities, having begun with the inception of the college in 1966.

Since then, the department has imparted the highest level and quality of academic education to undergraduate and postgraduate students. A 15-member faculty with expertise across all the major areas of chemistry leads our academic mission — from organic synthesis to physical chemistry, from analytical methods to research-driven specialisations.

Our commitment to teaching is reflected in our dedication to building a community environment and providing every opportunity for our students to develop high professional competence — with a strong awareness of the importance of chemistry in the global scenario.
