Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Library

Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Library — reading hall
The Heart of the Institution

Where knowledge, technology and tradition meet

The Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Library works for the growth and development of every individual who walks through its doors. It has shaped the careers of scores of young men and women across generations of students at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College.

Under the virtuoso and visionary stewardship of successive Principals and Librarians, it has evolved into one of the richest two-storied, spacious, digital, automated and multimedia knowledge centres in the region.

An Epitome of Knowledge

Print, electronic and everything in between

Being an epitome of knowledge, the library is an amalgamation of print as well as electronic resources for quick retrieval of information by the end users — be it faculty, research scholars or students. Continuous, meticulous efforts are being made to upgrade the existing library resources, and the library is always in the process of empowering its users with updated information.

The College has been bestowed with a user-friendly library with diverse sections to cater to the varying information needs of its users. This contemporary library also leverages Information & Communication Technology tools to extend access to its end users — ten computers are connected through a LAN to the library server, and a broadband internet facility has been made available for faculty members.

Automation & Digital Access

The library is automated with SLIM 21 (System for Library Information and Management) — a latest-generation, user-friendly software for day-to-day library management and quick retrieval of information.

To extend the reach of the library beyond its physical walls, two online databases have been subscribed:

  • DELNET — providing networked access to a wide consortium of Indian library resources
  • N-LIST (INFLIBNET) — granting members, teachers and research scholars online access to thousands of e-journals and e-books

Special & Reference Collections

An annual refurbishment of the Reference Section takes place on a regular basis. The library houses an exclusive section for the Postgraduate departments and a substantial collection of religious writings, with a special focus on Sikh Studies.

Beyond the regular collection, the library maintains:

  • Panjab University Examination Result Gazettes (up to 2005)
  • An ongoing newspaper clipping service
  • Employment alerts curated for students
