I — About

Concepts of liberty, tested by events.

The PG Department of Political Science was established at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College in 1966 — to educate students in the theoretical underpinnings of the discipline and to corroborate the same with the events that bring concepts under continuous re-examination.

Over the years, with the collective efforts of the faculty members, the discipline has evolved and manifested itself as a dynamic and holistic subject — and is becoming an increasingly popular choice among students.

Both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offer an in-depth awareness of the emerging trends in the contemporary era — particularly those of the post-pandemic world order, where older settled assumptions about democracy, sovereignty, and global cooperation are themselves under question.

The Department's teaching focuses on the foundational concepts of fundamental rights, democracy, equality, liberty and justice — and on the political theories, comparative governments, and international relations that inform how these concepts work in practice.
