The UGC Cell of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College serves as the institutional liaison between the College and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi — coordinating proposals, settlements, schemes and reporting between the College, its faculty members and the Commission.
The UGC Cell facilitates between the College and the UGC office in New Delhi — serving as the single point of correspondence, follow-up and clarification.
The Cell generates institutional proposals under various UGC schemes for seeking grants in support of teaching, research, infrastructure and student welfare.
The Cell takes the lead role in the timely settlement of records, utilisation certificates and account reconciliations with the UGC office.
The Cell helps faculty members seek grants and apply for the various UGC research schemes — covering minor and major projects, travel and seminar grants.
All settlements regarding the various Minor and Major Research Projects undertaken by faculty members have been cleared. By visiting the UGC head office at New Delhi, the Cell was successful in completing the settlement of the College’s accounts.
The College received the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the 11th Plan as well as the 12th Plan in the year 2020 — a significant institutional achievement coordinated by the Cell.
The Cell prepared and submitted institutional proposals under the UGC’s STRIDE (Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy) — supporting the College’s ambition for high-quality interdisciplinary research.
The Cell prepared proposals to launch skill-based courses under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), and successfully introduced the Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism at the College.
“Novel Corona and Novel Challenges: Life Ahead with Covid-19”
During the Corona period, the UGC Cell organised a One-Day International Virtual Conference. Educationists and economists from various parts of India and several foreign countries deliberated on the theme. The conference was hosted on the freeconferencecall platform.
“New Education Policy 2020: Challenges and Opportunities”
Organised to create awareness and discuss the challenges of the New Education Policy 2020. Eminent speakers included Prof N. K. Taneja (VC, CCS University, Meerut), Prof Rohini Prasad (Ex-VC, Sarguja University, Ambikpur), Prof Samedu Chettri (Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness, IIT Kharagpur), Prof Vinayak Deshpande (former Pro-VC, RTM Nagpur University) and Prof D. K. Madaan (Head, School of Social Sciences).
Financial literacy for the digital age
Organised to educate participants about the basics of the Capital Market. As the digitalisation of monetary transactions continues to rise, knowledge of capital markets has become an important component of every-day financial decision-making — including the avoidance of cyber-financial frauds. Speakers included S. Inderjit Singh (Regional Head, CDSL), Harbinder Singh Sokhi (Manager, BSE) and Mohita S. Dahiya (AGM, SEBI).
